Learn the top six products every home should have in order to be eco-friendly in this Howcast video featuring Alegre of Green and Greener.

Hi, Alegre from Ember Living here today to talk about the top green products every household should have. If you don’t know where to start when you want to start going green, start here. The first thing to do is green your cleaning products. I go into much greater detail about all these subjects in other videos, so you can look there. B ut go under your kitchen sink and get rid of all the things that are toxic and replace them with non-toxic products. And when you get rid of those products, take them to household houser’s waste. Check with your municipality.

Don’t just throw them down the toilet, that’s not a good idea. Secondly, green your bath and body routine. Your skin is your largest organ, and you absorb more chlorine through your skin than you do if you drink chlorinated water. So, think about asthma, allergies, skin reactions, all of those things that you can help avoid by using clean bath and body products. Energy efficient lighting.

Buy CFL or LED light bulbs. They will save you so much energy, they will make your house so much cooler, save you a lot of money. Also get energy efficient appliances, especially your refrigerator. Your refrigerator uses a lot of energy to begin with, and it’s on 100 percent of the time so you can really save a lot of money by going energy efficient there. In the bathroom, get a water filter for your shower. Most municipal water has a lot of chlorine in it, which is really bad for your skin and your hair and also for your lungs, because the chlorine becomes aerated when it’s heated and forced out a shower head. So switch to a shower filter and it will be better for your lungs, your skin, your hair, everything. Also, on your shower filter if you can get a navy button, which is a simple on-off switch, it will help you save a lot of water. Finally, one of my favorite products out there is called a smart strip.

It’s a really easy way to save a lot of electricity by cutting down on a lot on phantom loads. Phantom loads can contribute up to 13 percent to a household’s energy costs in a year, so you can save yourself a lot of energy there. So go out with these simple tips. You’ll save a lot of energy and you’ll make your house a lot healthier for yourself and you’ll add to your wallet. Thanks.

diagnosed as mutagenic? But I’m not sure if it;s the same borax that is
replacing cleaning products…?
