Please watch: “Getting Ready For WINTER!!!! Practical Advice For Your Homestead”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-I2z2nd190 –~–
Pallet gardening? For homesteading? For feeding you family wonderful produce? For saving space? Money…Time… REALLY?
Are you serious?
I admit I was fooled! I watched some You Tube videos when we first started out homesteading and WERE SOLD!!! So we stack up on those FREE pallets and go ready for the pallet garden WALL of food!
Three pallets later and all our STORE bought soil GONE. we never did finish the REST of the pallets…BECAUSE WE DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH soil to fill them!!!!!!!!!!
Laying down or standing up I then soon discovered HOW MUCH WATER these pallets took!!
TOOK WATER! The soil kept drying out…and feeding your family? Really? I should have just dumped all that good expensive garden soil ON THE GROUND WHERE IT BELONGED!!!!

Patara From Appalachia Homestead put up a video last week and I almost FEEL flat on my face. for just a couple weeks before that I was walking in my garden BY MY WEED INFESTED PALLET DISCUSSING my BIGGEST GARDEN FAILURE…THE PALLETS!
Yea for Patara for being bold enough to FINALLY TELL people the truth! THEY DONT work! They arent the ideal IDEAL for growing food..or if your looking for a self sustainable solution !!
After discussing my failures with Patara she agreed..GO for it and SHARE my story to! WHY? Because WE want you people to get the right information! We arent selling any tickets here! ! WE WANT you to succeed at homesteading. We want you to grow more food for your family!!
And sometimes..telling people the RAW truth just the way it is..has to be done!
Sometimes the truth aint pretty..BUT then again neither are those pallets when they are roting in your garden three years alter!!!

READ MY NEW ARTICLE about PALLETS and why they dont work!!!!!!!

great informative video again. I am not surprised that there is not much "luck" in growing stuff on a pallet. if it worked people would have been doing it a long time ago, Love Joyce

Santi Joseph II says:

Starry have you had any nitrogen deficiency w/ your back to eden method? Personally I have had major issues with back to eden method and nitrogen deficiency even when having bottom layer of compost and top dressing of aged/composted manure, not only that, ticks, chiggers, termites seem to love the diverse wood-chips. Love what you do I appreciate you both. .

Santi Joseph II says:

What are your thoughts regarding squarefoot gardening? Just a few 3×12' raised beds done right, one can grow a profound amount of food steps from the front door. The seed that falls on good soil;)

John Cashin says:

try those blue plastic barrels cut into 16 inch sections no rot and you can control your soil

John Cashin says:

try some old gutters for onion or small root based plants

John Cashin says:

you can always burn them dear

Brenda Stweart says:

Hugo's Mom says:

Glad we read this we were ready to do a pallet herb garden. Can buy a lot of fresh herbs for the cost of the soil and plants. Will go ahead and put them in pots. Thanks so much.

Woods NewsWatch says:

Tires yes I use them down in my ground because I have nothing but sand. The Tires catch some of the rain and hold it from just draining away.

RestorationMt Homestead says:

Awesome video full of truth !! Full of much needed info. ❤

Joe Nadeau says:

People also use them for compost bins and they are horrible for that as well, they break down quickly and you end up with a mess, some garden wire fence in a circle is what I switched to and they last for years…………great video and well presented dialog.

Betty Jane Felts says:

Glad we didn't do this after watching those how to videos using palates.

Terry Johnson says:

From a distance pallets ROT! Here in Florida everything ROTS! That's a huge reason why back to Eden gardening is such a great thing. I uses rot to our advantage!

T Lynn says:

love the truth

Tea Kramer says:

Starry ty for the heads up. Im in Central Florida and stuck for now in an HOA community. HOA wont allow back yard or even front yard gardening in the ground. BUT I do container garden alot, I do have a big container that I am making soil which has been doing great with loads of worms. Plus I am also growing a few pallet gardens which yes HTwood which hubby also had sanded down. This is 3rd year same pallets being used no rot yet and I use for my herbs plus he built a table next to the BBQ for a work station. I hear what your saying and this year screw thew HOA we are planting tomatoes and peppers around the house as you would plant flowers. Along with one pallet with kale and some greens for our rabbit. ITs a project. Ive never had problems with pallet gardening in 3 years but ill watch and see what happens ty good advice. ty

George Murray says:

Funny teacher, If I could send you my latest pictures of my pallet(s), you would be soooo amazed. I have made a beautiful coop with it. Wood will be eaten by termites around it if it touches soil. Not a good idea.
